What is Chelation Therapy?

Chelation therapy is a specific therapy that uses different amino acids/antioxidants to remove harmful metals, such as mercury, lead, cadmium, arsenic, and others from the body. It has historically been used to treat heavy metal overload. EDTA, DMSA, and DMPS are the most common forms used. These chelators are known to attract and bind heavy metals and calcium, which is found in atherosclerotic plaques. Since some of the essential minerals get removed, they must be replaced. This can be done through a remineralization IV that is scheduled during your chelation schedule.

Why is Chelation Therapy performed?

We are all exposed to the pollutants and toxins from our environment every day. Whether from the food we eat, water we drink, or air we breath; we are all exposed to chemicals that end up harming our body’s ability to properly detoxify and keep up with a level of health that keeps us feeling young. Chelation Therapy helps to reduce our body’s burden of those toxins that contribute to chronic health issues, heavy metal toxicity, atherosclerotic build up, and declining health. Eating right, exercising regularly, and sleeping well isn’t enough to keep us from harboring those stubborn chemicals that lay dormant in our bodies for decades sometimes. Regular and proper detoxing can help you to reduce your burden of these chemicals. Chelation therapy is part of a balanced treatment program to keep you at your best. A balanced detoxification program is critical. Without it, our body’s ability to maintain health and basic metabolic function could lead to dysfunction and even disease. Many chronic health conditions are greatly helped with Chelation therapy.

What are the different forms of Chelation Therapy?

Chelation therapy doctors can deliver the therapy in different ways. IV therapy can be scheduled once a week and may take up to a few hours each visit. Most patients need to have at least 20 sessions of IV therapy to realize their health goal. EDTA is the solution used with IV Chelation therapy. DMSA can be used orally. This process is done at home on a very specific schedule and may not always fit into a busy schedule.

What does Chelation Therapy cost?

IV Chelation therapy is a long term therapy and is best purchased in bundled packages for the best price point for the patient. When a package is purchased, that is when the entire cost of the package is collected and all the appointments are made. Discuss protocol and pricing with the chelation therapy doctor.

Heavy Metal Chelation Supplements.

When undergoing Chelation therapy to reduce your burden of heavy metals, there are specific supplements that will be part of the protocol. Each protocol will have a specific time line with an outline of when to take those supplements. The chelation therapy doctor will review this timeline during your visit.

What are the benefits of Chelation therapy?

Your heart condition can benefit tremendously from chelation therapy, especially with diabetic conditions, according to the TACT1 (Trial to Assess Chelation Therapy) Study. In the subgroup with diabetes (633 patients), the results were dramatic: the chelation-based strategy reduced cardiac events by 51% and reduced total mortality by 43%. The study found that chelation plus high-dose vitamins and minerals produced the greatest reduction in risk of cardiovascular events versus placebo.Other research shows that brain function improves along with mitochondrial function (those little power plants in each cell). Stubborn, chronic conditions like Alzheimer’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, peripheral vascular disease, multiple sclerosis, and autism have been treated and controlled using Chelation therapy.

Beyond Chelation

After you have completed your Chelation Therapy program, there will be certain guidelines that should be followed. Because everyone is different and undergoing Chelation therapy for different reasons, your Chelation doctor will review this with you as your program comes to a close. Part of your maintenance program will include a regular “maintenance” chelation protocol. Coronary artery bypass surgery and other hospital involved conditions can be very expensive. Chelation can be a much less expensive approach to managing concerning health conditions that might otherwise drain a bank
