Medically Supervised Nutritional Programs
For overweight and especially obese people, losing weight is one of the most advantageous things they can do for their health. A medically supervised nutritional program is the most responsible and likely to succeed method of pursuing weight loss. Many people come to medical weight loss programs after failing to meet their long term weight loss goals through ‘fad diets’ like the grapefruit juice diet or other popular trends. Often pursuing radical weight loss through these unsustainable diets can lead to yo-yoing weight changes, which can put even more stress on a body. Dr. Cynthia Thaik M.D., sincerely believes in aiding each of her patients achieve the healthy weight for them. She has helped patients across Los Angeles, from Burbank to Santa Clarita with medical weight management programs.
Is Medically Supervised Weight Loss Right for Me?
There are many methods of medically supervised weight loss out there. Bariatric surgery is one such method which grabs headlines for its dramatic results. No doubt you’ve seen the photos of people holding up much larger garments and beaming that they are now much too slim to fit into them. These success stories are encouraging. However, it’s also a method of last resort reserved for the morbidly obese and at-risk individuals (such as those with type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, or sleep apnea). A sledgehammer to crack a walnut. As a serious surgical procedure, it poses substantial risks and side effects in and of itself. What’s more, it does not guarantee a healthy weight by itself. A modified, healthy diet and exercise are necessary in order to ensure long-term success.
MD-Supervised Prolon FMD in Los Angeles, Burbank or Valencia
One non-surgical approach that Dr. Cynthia advocates for is the ProLon Fasting Mimicking Diet (FMD). The FMD is a five-day dietary program that mimics fasting while including healthy plant-based meals. It’s backed by $48 million in grants, the majority from the NIH and NIA. It reduces the difficulty and risk of water-only fasting while still assisting weight loss. ProLon is based on the principle of autophagy: the process in which the body breaks down old cells and replaces them with new ones. This process can help fight aging by rejuvenating the body. ProLon’s meals, while maintaining healthy blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood pressure for its user, tricks your body into entering fasting mode. The first day of the program offers 1,100 calories (about half of what the average adult woman should normally be eating a day). The subsequent four days of the diet deliver 750 calories. It is essential that you do not eat anything besides what is inside the box. This reduced caloric intake will facilitate burning of excess fat and the activation of stem cell based renewal. In clinical trials, ProLon decreased subjects’ abdominal fat while increasing lean body mass.
How Our Medically Supervised ProLon Program Can Help You Lose Weight
If you are over 70, have diabetes or an autoimmune disease, or are medically required to lose weight, your use of ProLon must be medically supervised by a physician, assistant, or other qualified healthcare provider. We recommend that a lab evaluation is undertaken. This can evaluate your baseline metabolic state, and track improvement as a result of the diet. We also strongly advise against the ProLon diet if you or a member of your household has a nut allergy.
Medical Weight Management Supervised By Dr. Cynthia Thaik’s Team
ProLon is just one of several weight loss programs we offer at our Holistic Healing Heart Center. Our on-site nutritionist helps us put together safe, medically designed and supervised plans that achieve quick weight loss results without requiring medications or strenuous physical activity. Our holistic approach will give you increased energy levels, concentration, better sleep, and a strengthened immune system. At the same time it will improve your glucose numbers and cholesterol levels while decreasing your blood pressure.
All in all, it will improve your total well-being and vitality, while improving your general health. Our process begins with collecting data of all sorts. We don’t just rely on lab data: we trust our patients to work with us to achieve health goals. Patients receive a survey of over 100 questions. The purpose of this survey is to identify any toxicity in a patient’s lifestyle and establish the extent of their symptoms. We will also test for food allergies, to ascertain if there are any components of your diet which may be causing inflammation. All this data in concert can help us establish which systems in your body require our attention and how grave your symptoms are. Once this data has been collected and analyzed, our patients work with us to establish the best nutrition program possible for the individual’s health goals. We can identify which supplements and protocols to prescribe. Dr. Cynthia has three main treatment options available to those interested in medically supervised weight loss:
1.) Custom weight loss consultation
Our custom weight loss programs have proven to be of particular benefit to patients with other conditions. Diabetes, osteoporosis, hypertension, and heart disease to name a few.
2.) A three week detox and nutrition program
When we embark on our detox and nutrition program, we take the holistic view of the patient. Reducing inflammation caused by gut dysfunction can have substantial effects felt around the body. Autoimmune disease, anxiety, hormone imbalance all have the potential to be remedied by our thorough and thoughtful detox and nutrition program.
3.) The nationally recognized Ideal Protein weight loss program
Ideal Protein is a 4-phase dieting protocol that also advocates for more effective and healthier lifestyle habits. It’s low-calorie, low-carb, protein rich, and ketogenic. It promotes fat loss, not decrease of muscle mass. Unlike some weight loss programs, Ideal Protein is designed to have a beginning, middle, and end, with support and guidance to effect long term change and ensure success long after the program has ended. Lifestyle Building and Lifestyle Living: the means to alter your habits to be more constructive, and then keep to those healthy habits.
What We Won’t Do
Our weight loss clinic doesn’t work like others you might have read about, or even worked with. When you’re working with the Holistic Healing Heart Center, we won’t make you count calories. We don’t require you to take medication to lose weight. We also don’t require you to exercise for the program to be a success. That is, while we do generally advocate for exercise as a healthy choice, we recognize that not everyone is able to pursue regular exercise. We don’t leave you high and dry after the program is over. All of our programs include planning for the future, including detailed instructions and advice on how to continue to eat right after the program’s conclusion. We won’t make your health entirely about the number on the scale. Other doctors and even some insurance companies refuse to contemplate that medical issues could have anything to do with issues besides obesity. Dr. Cynthia believes in trusting patients, treating them not merely as numbers and data but as real people. She will use her knowledge of functional nutrition to get to the root cause of your illness with a lifestyle approach to health– not a laser focus on your weight.
